Arrowhead Landfill

FILE – This Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 file photo shows the Arrowhead Landfill near Uniontown, Ala. Some people who live near the huge landfill in Perry County say a proposed law doesn’t go far enough in regulating the disposal of coal ash in Alabama. A bill being considered by the Legislature would give the state oversight over coal ash disposal. Tons of the substance from a massive spill in Tennessee have been placed in the landfill near Uniontown. But Perry County residents including Esther Calhoun argue that the bill should go further and label coal ash as a toxic waste. The bill is supported by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. It was approved Wednesday, March 2, 2011 by a House committee. (AP Photo/Jay Reeves)
