Conservative Heads Explode After Obama Said ‘Nigger’ While Talking About Racism

Barack Obama is certainly not the first sitting President to say the word “nigger,” but he may be the first to use the term in a constructive manner. Speaking to Marc Maron on the comedian’s “WTF” podcast last week, the President chose to be direct about racism in America:

“The legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination — in in almost every institution of our lives — that casts a long shadow, that’s still part of our DNA, that’s passed on,” the President said. He continued:

“Racism, we are not cured of it. And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say ‘nigger’ in public. That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don’t, overnight, completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior.”

During the interview, the President touched on gun control in the wake of white-wing terrorist Dylann Roof’s bloody rampage in a South Carolina church.

“I will tell you, right after Sandy Hook, Newtown, when 20 6-year-olds are gunned down, and Congress literally does nothing – yes, that’s the closest I came to feeling disgusted,” he said. “I was pretty disgusted.”

Obama conceded that the issue of respecting Americans’ love of hunting while instituting reasonable gun control is a difficult issue.

“The question is just is there a way of accommodating that legitimate set of traditions with some common-sense stuff that prevents a 21-year-old who is angry about something or confused about something, or is racist, or is deranged from going into a gun store and suddenly is packing, and can do enormous harm.”

The President said that mass shootings are “unique to our country,” and pointed out that other nations like Australia have used such horrific occurrences to make positive changes to gun laws in order to protect their citizens.

Obama added that the “grip of the NRA on Congress is extremely strong,” and that nothing will truly be done until Americans cast off the false notion that mass shootings are “normal.”

“The grieving that the country feels is real, the sympathy, the prioritizing, comforting the families, all that is important,” he said. “It’s not enough just to feel bad, there are actions that could be taken to make events like this less likely. One of those actions we could take is to enhance basic, common-sense, gun safety laws that by the way, the majority of gun owners support.”

Naturally, conservatives are furious that Obama used the “n-word” — after all, that’s their word:

During a Fox and Friends appearance, conservative pundit David Webb let the faux-outrage fly.

“I’m wondering what groups the president engaged by using that word,” said Webb, who was quick to claim that only “thugs” and gang members generally use the term. “You want the president to reflect the dignity of the office … This president went below the dignity of the office.”

“He says we basically have not evolved as a society, that racism is still institutional in the United States,” Webb said. “And it’s not because we don’t have codified law, we don’t have social acceptance.”

“As a matter of fact, we have overturned racism,” he added, playing into the GOP’s narrative that racism is over in America. “There are always going to be racists, and that’s a difference.”

It’s absolutely insane that conservatives can be so oblivious to the issues black people face in our society that they are angry that Obama said “nigger” while discussing racism — but, then again, conservatives are used to calling him that, not hearing him say it.
