Democratic Senator SHREDS Ted Cruz For Using Sandy Hook Tragedy As Example Of His Courage

Ted Cruz thinks making sure gun nuts can continue killing kids at will makes him courageous, so this Democratic Senator put him in his place.

A pro-Ted Cruz super PAC, which calls itself “Courageous Conservatives,” has released an ad hailing Cruz as a hero who ignored the killing of 20 first-graders at Sandy Hook Elementary School to stand up for gun rights even though most Americans screamed for gun control.

“After Sandy Hook, Ted Cruz stopped Obama’s push for new gun control laws,” the ad brags.

Indeed, Cruz joined just about every single Republican in the Senate to block legislation that would have strengthened background checks even though an overwhelming majority of Americans support stronger background checks for all gun buyers. A vast majority even support laws preventing people with mental illness from owning a gun. And this isn’t just among Democrats and independent voters. It’s among Republicans, too.

Ever since, Cruz has used his demonstration as an NRA puppet as a campaign talking point.

But Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut isn’t impressed with the ad. In fact, he was so disgusted by it that he ripped Ted Cruz a new one in a blistering statement.

“If Ted Cruz wants to brandish his pro-gun credentials to Republican primary voters, that’s his right. But it’s sick that he thinks he’ll win votes by specifically pointing out that in the wake of 20 dead first-graders, he was the face of the fight to ensure no action was taken to stop more deranged killers from walking into elementary schools with military-style assault weapons loaded with 30-round clips of ammunition.”

That’s a strong rebuke that will surely leave Ted Cruz with a big frown on his face. But Murphy didn’t stop there. He continued to let Cruz have it.

“The new Ted Cruz ad makes me want to throw up, and I’m pretty sure that’s a feeling shared by many who lived through the horror of Sandy Hook. Showing off how callous he was in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting may win him some right-wing votes that get swept up from Donald Trump or Ben Carson, but it disqualifies him in a general election. Middle-of-the-road, common sense voters support measures like expanded background checks. But more importantly, they won’t be impressed by a campaign whose opening pitch to voters is portraying the candidate as the one senator who took on the parents of Sandy Hook in the wake of the most horrific mass shooting in our lifetime.”

Ted Cruz’s campaign has yet to comment on the ad or respond to Murphy but you can be sure that it will be more of the same chicken-shit rhetoric that the Texas Tea Party Senator has been spewing since he took office in 2013.

As for Murphy, it’s about time someone had the guts to slap the taste out of Cruz’s big mouth.
