Girl Scouts Said ‘No Thanks’ After Being Trolled By Bigoted $100k Donor

While the Boy Scouts have yet to crawl out of the 20th century when it comes to LGBT rights, the Girl Scouts have long been leaders in civil rights of all kinds. They are an equal opportunity organization and they proved it again when they turned down a sizable $100,000 donation that came with an equally sizable catch.

The donor offered the Girl Scouts of Western Washington the $100,000 donation under the stipulation that none of the money go to transgender girls. While the donor is anonymous, it’s not a giant leap that someone was trying to catch the Girl Scouts in some sort of hypocrisy. Well, the troll lost. The Girl Scouts said no way.

It wasn’t like they didn’t need the money. They posted on their Indiegogo page:

“$100,000 is a lot of money. In fact, it’s almost a third of our entire financial assistance program for this year – and girls need this support now. That’s why losing this gift is such a big deal.”

Here’s a video about it:

Fortunately, their policy of inclusion has brought in even more money than the bigoted donor offered — a lot more. They are currently up to over $186,000.

“Our vision at Girl Scouts of Western Washington is that EVERY girl in our region — regardless of her race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity or geographic location — is empowered to unleash her potential, build her future and transform her world.”

Long before the world heard of Caitlyn Jenner, they allowed a transgender girl to join their ranks in Colorado. They received a lot of blowback in 2012, but they didn’t care.

“The state scouts said Bobby was welcome to join Girl Scouts. ‘If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout,’ said the Colorado Girl Scouts, in a statement to a CNN affiliate.”

The Girl Scouts are all about empowerment and they are strongly involved in anti-bullying campaigns. If all American girls would join the Girl Scouts, perhaps the world would be a more accepting place.
