Tuesday was the day where it became legal in Georgia to openly carry a loaded gun almost everywhere, including bars, night clubs, classrooms, TSA checkpoint areas in airports, churches and even some government offices. Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) defended the law by saying that “our Lord” gave us the Second Amendment, which grants the right to carry guns wherever you want.

“We know that when law abiding citizens — who know how to use one — have one on their person, it helps to prevent crime,” Broun told Newsmax TV. “A law that I think is going to help prevent shootings, that is going to help prevent crime.”

The Georgia Republican argued that “any law — whether it’s federal, state or local — that interfere’s with a law-abiding citizen’s right to own, carry or utilize a firearm in any manner” was unconstitutional.

“We need to go back to the Constitution for not only the First Amendment, but the Second Amendment,” he explained. “Because the First and Second Amendments are the guardians of our liberties. The Second Amendment is the one that really protects all of our liberties that we are given by our Lord, and our God-given rights, and are protected under the Constitution.”

Braun went on to say that having more guns, especially in schools will save children’s lives. Educators disagree, with 72% saying they wouldn’t bring a gun into a school. 87%, though, do believe having an armed guard in the school would make them safer, despite the fact that Columbine High School had an armed guard when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students and one teacher in 1999.

Oh, and guns are only about 1,000 years old, which means the Bible predates them by quite a while.
