Judge Orders Accused Serial Rapist Bill Cosby To Testify On Molestation Of 15-Year-Old

Disgraced comedian Bill Cosby has been having a rather terrible time of it lately. It all started when comedian Hannibal Buress brought up the long-circling rumors that the beloved star was actually a serial rapist. After that, the women started coming out of the woodwork in droves to tell their stories of being drugged and raped by Cosby. After that, documents and transcripts from a hearing regarding sexual assault allegations were ordered to be made public, after Cosby’s lawyers had successfully blocked their release for more than a decade. In the proceedings referenced in those documents, Cosby admitted to drugging women in order to have sex with them. Well, now, the plot thickens again.

US Weekly reports that a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has managed to tear down the walls built by Cosby’s lawyers, and on August 5, released an order for Cosby to testify in a sworn deposition regarding his alleged molestation of one of his accusers, Judy Huth, when she was only 15 years old. This allegedly took place at the Playboy Mansion more than 40 years ago. Unfortunately, after all this time, there can be no criminal charges brought thanks to the statute of limitations, but there can be civil suits, and Ms. Huth’s suit is proceeding. She says the alleged incident left her with “extreme emotional distress.”

Cosby will have a tough time of it with this one. Famed women’s rights activist and attorney Gloria Allred will be questioning him during the deposition. Allred says of the proceedings:

“We are pleased that we will now be able to move ahead without further delay on Ms. Huth’s case.”

I, for, one, am glad as well. Bill Cosby has made a career out of being a role model, famous for his wholesome family television show, The Cosby Show, and its spin-off, A Different World. He has moralized on the black community and America at large on many occasions including telling other people how they should live. All the while, he hid this dark and sinister side.

At this point in time, I am inclined to believe the dozens of women who say that Cosby assaulted them, and that it was the misogynist culture in which we live, where a woman daring to bring to light the wrongs done to her by a rich and powerful man like Bill Cosby would simply be crucified by law enforcement and the public alike. Well, times are changing, thankfully, and here we are, 40 years later. Bill Cosby won’t spend so much as a minute behind bars or see the inside of a court of law over these allegations, but he can and should be tried in civil court. If these women don’t win there, it will be a damn shame, but hey, at least they won in the court of public opinion.

This is rape culture. When literally dozens of women can say they are raped by the same man, and that man never faces any real punishment. If that doesn’t tell you that sexism is still alive and well, I don’t know what will.
