Klansman Planned To Use Death Ray To Attack President Obama, Muslims

A member of the Ku Klux Klan is on trial for his bizarre plan to attack President Barack Obama and target Muslims with a death ray.

Glendon Scott Crawford called his planned x-ray device “Hiroshima on a light switch,” according to a 2012 FBI recording. He allegedly planned to target a mosque in Albany, NY and a Muslim school in nearby Colonie. He also had plans to use his device on the White House in an attack on President Obama.

He and his would-be partner Eric Feight were arrested in 2013 for their planned anti-Muslim attacks, and Feight has already plead guilty.

Crawford’s lawyer is blaming the government investigation of his client for the whole affair:

But a lawyer for Glendon Scott Crawford at the start of his trial said that government undercover agents dragged him further into the plot to build what media dubbed the “death ray” machine after he tried to pull away in the initial stages, when he had no more than “a piece of paper” sketching out his ideas.

In opening arguments at U.S. District Court in Albany, a lawyer for Crawford, 51, of Galway, New York, said the device would have never been built if not for the government supplying the necessary components via “criminal” sources.

“(Crawford) has strong political views and he saw Muslim extremism in Europe coming here,” defense lawyer Kevin Luibrand said.

The government found out about the plan after Crawford approached the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York with what was described as a “black-bag operation” to “kill Israel’s enemies while they slept.” The federation wisely called in the authorities after being contacted, which set in motion an FBI operation to watch Crawford and contact him with an undercover agent in order to figure out his plans.

The judge in the case said prosecutors can show jurors the device, which is based on an industrial x-ray machine. Crawford is accused of conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction and distributing information with respect to a weapon of mass destruction, among other charges.
