Memphis Cotton Gin Boss threatens employees over drinking from ‘White People’ water fountain

White sonly sign2

Yep.  This is another short diary about a story that goes somewhat hand in hand with my note on a hanging in effigy outside of Kansas City.

“Hey!” says the supervisor in the recording.

“What?” asked Harris.

“I need to put a sign here that says `white people only.’”

Harris also recorded his attempt to use the microwave:

“I am going to use the microwave,” said Harris in the recording.

“Hell no!” said the supervisor.

“Why can’t I use the microwave, man?”

“Because you are not white.”

“For real?”

“As a white man, we don`t even let Larry use it.”

He continues..

“Put your sign on the wall then, because I am feeling to drink it,” said Harris. “What would they do when they catch me drinking your water?”

“That`s when we hang you,” said the supervisor.

Too often these acts of outright racism are dismissed as the act of a select few.  Commentators do it too frequently.   Recently the USSC (United States Sentencing Commission) did.

“There is an old disease, and that disease is cured,” Bert Rein, the attorney leading the legal challenge to the Voting Rights Ac t — the landmark law intended to ensure all Americans can vote—told to the Supreme Court on Tuesday. “That problem is solved.”

We’re just to Tuesday early morning, and so far this week has included a major story about a president hung from a noose in a simulated lynching, and a southern factory where the boss systematically threatened discriminatory practices including segregated services and hangings.Yep.  I guess these are good signs that racism is over.
