Oops! Republican Homophobe Ben Carson Mistakenly Buys Ad On Gay Site

In a hilarious twist of fate, well-known homophobe and Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson has accidentally placed an advertisement on a gay website.

The anti-gay conservative, who has previously stated that being gay is “absolutely” a choice because criminals “go into prison straight and when they come out, they’re gay,” recently made an odd appearance on the LGBT blog Towleroad. The blog carried Carson’s ad in its sidebar, which said “Endorse Ben, Get a free bumper sticker. Ben Carson for President 2016.”

To put this into perspective, this ad placement comes from the same man who made jokes about poisoning wedding cakes made for same-sex couples and one of many conservatives to compare homosexuality to pedophilia and bestiality. Carson is considered one of the more extreme homophobes of the Republican party, and has recently said that gay rights should not be considered civil rights. In an interview with Fox News, Carson said, “I was a little bit irritated that they were equating the whole issue with the Civil Rights movement. Because, quite frankly, I didn’t remember any times when there were signs up that says, you know, ‘everybody else here and gay people have to drink at this fountain.’”

After the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage across the country, Carson flipped out and vowed to “call on Congress to make sure deeply held religious views are respected and protected,” which called for Congress to allow same-sex couples to be discriminated against under the veil of religious freedom. Carson added, “The government must never force Christians to violate their religious beliefs.”

Carson’s ad on the gay news site Towleroad is definitely strange and a bit comical, but it’s not too uncommon for conservatives to make mistakes like this and accidentally support LGBT organizations. Just last month, Christian evangelist Billy Graham pulled his church’s bank accounts from Wells Fargo after the company aired a commercial that featured a lesbian couple. Graham ended up accidentally opening new accounts with a bank called BB&T, a company that aggressively supports gay rights and sponsors LGBT events several times per year.

Carson and Graham’s incidents prove that even when conservatives want to fight gay marriage, they’re not smart enough to stop supporting these organizations.
