‘Pharma Bro’ Martin Shkreli: I Won’t Talk To Congress About My Price-Gouging Without A Subpoena

by  –

Turing Pharmaceutical founder and CEO Martin ‘Pharma Bro’ Shkreli is pretty much universally hated at this point for being a greedy f*ck who raised the price on a vital drug for treating cancer and AIDS patients by 5000% overnight. After intense backlash he reluctantly bowed to public pressure and said he’d lower the price of the drug; however, that promise has yet to come to fruition. He was even owned in a Reddit AMA by a real doctor who blew a million holes in his bullshit excuses for raising the price of the drug. Even though another company has decided to undercut him by selling a comparable drug with similar properties for just $1, Shkreli plows on with the idea that his greed is justified.

Well, Shkreli’s douchebaggery may not be just him being a horrible human being. It could also very well be illegal. Congress has sent out a request for Shkreli to come before them to explain his reasoning for f*cking over bunches of cancer and AIDS patients, most of whom likely subsist on disability or some other form of assistance due to being too sick to work, as well as drowning in medical bills. However, it has now come to light that Shkreli plans to defy Congress. He has flatly refused to go before them without a subpoena. Shkreli and his company have put out a statement regarding the matter that reads:

“We are reviewing the Committee’s request and, as we have and continue to do with similar congressional inquiries, we look forward to having an open and honest dialogue about drug pricing.”

Further, Shkreli himself said that he would be “unable to provide certain numbers and data related to proprietary information” concerning Daraprim, which is the drug in question. He went on to say in an interview:

“When my lawyers tell me I absolutely have to go, I’ll go. They don’t have subpoena power until they’ve got widespread support. I don’t have to go to a hearing unless there’s widespread support.”

Oh, I think that is where you are mistaken, Pharma Bro. You are hated universally, across political, socioeconomic, and every other line imaginable — even by your fellow greedy commercial drug pushers. You went way too far with this one. I’m sure you’ll be met with the full legal force on this one, and you’ll make as much of ass of yourself as always, and maybe even wind up in jail. As far as I’m concerned, that’s exactly where you belong.
