Senate Dems Pen Letter Demanding GOP Reimburse Taxpayers For Benghazi Investigation

The Senate Democrats are over the Benghazi nonsense. To be fair, most of America is sick of the Benghazi nonsense.

Rep. Elijah Cummings let the committee have it with his opening statement that called them out on the politicization of the committee. Cummings went on to hit Benghazi Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy hard, when Gowdy said that the committee should get longtime Clinton aid and personal friend Sidney Blumenthal to come in for questioning. Except, Blumenthal already has. So, Cummings motioned to simply add the transcript to the record. Gowdy tried to pretend Cummings was singling out Blumenthal, but Cummings fired back, “I’d like all of them released. The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!”

Let’s be honest, this whole thing is a joke. It’s beneath the American people, and it’s shameful for the institution of the U.S. Congress. But the Senate Democrats have a plan for how we can fix part of it. They need to pay the American people back for all the money they’ve wasted on expensive dinners and wine that has gone to nothing more than a political farce under the guise of finding actual evidence. To that end, they have penned a letter to the GOP, demanding that the American taxpayer be paid back for this ridiculous, politically motivated endeavor. Here is an excerpt from the letter:

“Due to the political nature of the committee, we believe it is inappropriate that a reported 4.7 million taxpayer dollars were used to finance its operations and that the RNC subsequently orchestrated numerous fundraising opportunities in its wake,” four top Democrats wrote in a letter to the RNC. “Therefore, we urge the RNC to fully reimburse the U.S. taxpayer and cease all fundraising opportunities linked to the Select Committee.”

The letter to the RNC was signed by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada), Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-Illinois), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York), and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Washington). The letter concludes, in part:

“It is clear from these candid comments and public reports that the Select Committee on Benghazi has retreated from the pursuit of the facts and instead is operating a political opposition machine against Secretary Clinton,” the letter went on to say. “Therefore, the continued use of taxpayer funds is wholly inappropriate.”

Not only have public reports shown that the Benghazi panel has spent more money than the entire budget of the House Intelligence Committee in total, but their NRCC has been fundraising off of this BS.

They’re spot on. This is nonsense paid for by you and me. The last thing we need when our economy is still working to stabilize itself is a ton of waste brought to you by the GOP. There have already been 32 hearings, 11 published reports, 50 briefings, and over 70,000 pages of documents have been released. If that isn’t enough by now, what is?
