Suzanne Somers Shares Her Intellect With The World

Suzanne_Somers_USO_2_headThis Suzanne Somers story has to be a joke, right? Please, tell me this is a gag and I have merely read too much into it. Chrissy Snow has recently expounded her brilliance upon the masses. This person of privilege has let it be known to the world, via the Wall St. Journal (WSJ) no less, that the ACA is a giant Ponzi scheme and then proceeded to slam Canadian health care as being a very inferior system. Whoa, whoa, whoa, back it up there, blondie. Just because you’re married to a Canadian (who has lived south of the border for decades) does not make you the least bit knowledgeable of what goes on here, north of the 49th parallel. After witnessing the fuzzy facts, outright lies and the histrionics displayed by the GOP in its fight to put a stop to and to repeal Obamacare over the past 5 years I will, at this point, take umbrage with Ms. Somers.

Is the Canadian health care system perfect? No, far from it. But this much I can tell you, per capita the USA is ranked #1 in dollars spent on health care while Canada is ranked #10. Not a big difference some may say. Not really, no, but Canada has a single payer system and is far more accessible than anything the US has ever had. No one in Canada dies because they cannot afford life saving medication or from not receiving open heart surgery or chemotherapy because insurance companies won’t cover the procedure.

Somers told the WSJ that Canadian sister-in-law was forced to wait two months to see a physician, during which time she vomited continuously and couldn’t eat. When she finally did see a doctor, he reportedly told her,  “Oh, you don’t need me, you need a specialist.” Two weeks later, she apparently got a prescription that fixed the problem. Is there a GP shortage in Canada? Yes. Is your sister-in-law too stupid to drag her ass to an emergency room where she probably would have been hospitalized, treated and cured of her ails, all at no cost to her? Apparently so.

Somers claimed that Canadian doctors were flocking south to the US as well as going into veterinary medicine to earn more money with their practices. Not true, Suzanne. More Americans with medical degrees come north than vice versa. I’m sorry, but statistics involving the choice of veterinarian over homo sapien medicine is sorely lacking and I was unable to debunk your bunk on that front.

Here’s a beauty of a quote from Ms. Somers. “Boomers are smart. They see the train wreck coming … most I speak with think the Affordable Care Act is a greater Ponzi scheme than that pulled off by Bernie Madoff. Yeah, Chrissy, errrrrrrrrrrr Suzanne, Mr. Obama set up the ACA specifically as his own private piggy bank so he could bilk the American public of their hard earned dollars for his own benefit. Wow, just wow.

I could go on but I am exhausted and my head hurts more than just a little. Let me just close with this. Suzanne Somers’ op/ed piece (?) ran in the Wall Street Journals Ask The Experts section, which is described by the media outlet as an exclusive group of industry, academic and cultural thought leaders who weigh in on the latest debates. Ummmmmm, in my humble opinion, Ms. Somers only area of expertise is in the fields of proper uses for the Thigh Master and how to separate people from their money with the snake oil and books she hocks on the Shopping Channel.

All-len-all, the Wall Street Journal would be better served if they used authentic experts to dissect the issues of the day as opposed to publishing drivel from the likes of Suzanne Somers.
