Trump Reportedly Divulged Classified Information to Russian Diplomats

by Ned Resnikoff – A source told the Post Trump “revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.” U.S. news outlets were more than a little surprised last week to discover that President Donald Trump had invited Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak — a central figure in the allegations that members of Trump’s campaign worked with Russian intelligence during the 2016 election — to join him in the Oval Office during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. But the bigger surprise was yet to come. On Monday, the Washington Post dropped some leaked details of Trump’s discussion with Sergei and Sergey. Citing “current and former U.S. officials,” the Post said that Trump had divulged “highly classified information” to the two Russian officials, and thereby “jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State.” One source told the Post that Trump had “revealed more information to the Russian...

5 Critical questions Trump Needs to Answer about the Russian Ambassador’s Covert Trip to Trump Tower

by Jen Hayden – On the heels of the news that Attorney General Jeff Sessions twice met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak (and lied about it under oath) leading up to the election—and so did a number of other key advisers—the New York Times followed up with this huge development: The New Yorker reported this week that Mr. Kushner had met with Mr. Kislyak at Trump Tower in December. Hope Hicks, a White House spokeswoman, confirmed on Thursday that Mr. Flynn was also at the meeting in response to questions from a New York Times reporter. Trump’s trusted son-in-law Jared Kushner (who, despite nepotism laws, is serving as senior White House adviser to Donald Trump) personally met with Kislyak at Trump Towers the very week President Barack Obama announced sanctions against Russia related to the Russian hack of DNC emails servers. More on the meeting from the New York Times: “They generally discussed the relationship and it...

Carter Page Reverses Story, Says He Met Russian Ambassador. And CNN Says Kushner Did Too

by Troutfishing – Last night came news of another 180 degree reversal from a Trump campaign surrogate concerning meeting the Russian ambassador. Now, it’s Carter Page, and his story reversal may be a bigger deal than that of Jeff Sessions, because of the oil. Russian oil to be exact. Back to that in a moment. But first — even as news broke yesterday of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ admission that he met twice with Russian Ambassador Kislyak during the 2016 election, Trump campaign advisor Carter Page reversed his story — he had previously denied, to NPR’s Judy Woodruff, meeting Kislyak. Now, Page has divulged to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes that he had met the Russian ambassador last Summer in Cleveland. Cleveland, you say ? Oh, how interesting — because it’s just been revealed by the Wall Street Journal, that while Jeff Sessions says he met Kislyak in Cleveland last Summer and claims...

Pelosi, Cummings Call for Sessions to Resign as AG Over his Lying About Contacts with the Russians

by Meteor Blades – Brooke Seipel reports that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is calling on Attorney General Jefferson B. Sessions III to resign after it came to light that he spoke to the Russian ambassador to the United States during Donald Trump’s campaign for the presidency: “Jeff Sessions lied under oath during his confirmation hearing before the Senate. Under penalty of perjury, he told the Senate Judiciary Committee, ‘I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.’ We now know that statement is false,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Now, after lying under oath to Congress about his own communications with the Russians, the Attorney General must resign. Sessions is not fit to serve as the top law enforcement officer of our country and must resign,” she continued. Mallory Shelbourne reports that Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the...

FBI Clears Michael Flynn Of Wrongdoing As Trump Lets Comey Keep His Job

by John Prager – This week, it was announced that Donald Trump has elected to keep James Comey (that nice gentleman who helped swing the election in Trump’s favor by sending Republicans a letter falsely indicating that a new investigation into Hillary Clinton was being opened just before the election) as FBI Director. That’s a move The New York Times notes will “keep Mr. Comey at the center of the F.B.I.’s investigation into several Trump associates and their potential ties with the Russian government.” Comey demonstrated with his attacks on Hillary that he has absolutely no integrity whatsoever, which makes him exactly the sort of guy Trump would want to keep around. Also on Tuesday, purely by coincidence of course, news broke that Trump’s national security advisor was cleared of any wrongdoing in his frantic communications with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak on the same day President Obama announced sanctions against Russia for...
