Donald Trump Jr Admits Attempted Collusion. Manafort and Kushner Also Involved

by Mark Sumner – Over the weekend, the New York TImes reported that Donald Trump Jr met with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer for the express purpose of receiving information he hoped would prove useful against Hillary Clinton.  President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton before agreeing to meet with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign, according to three advisers to the White House briefed on the meeting and two others with knowledge of it.  Trump Junior’s initial reaction to the story was, of course, to lie about it. He stated that the meeting had been about an adoption program. But, after the evidence was held very close to his face, Junior admitted that he had met with the woman for the express purpose of getting the goods on Hillary. In fact, the lure of potential damaging information about Clinton provided by the Russian government, was...

Trump Told Russians “Nut Job” Comey Was Fired to Ease Pressure: Report

by Common Dreams staff – “What’s worse: President admitting Comey was fired over Russia, or Spicer justifying it?” President Donald Trump characterized former FBI director James Comey, whom the president had fired just a day earlier, as a “nut job” to top Russian government officials during a recent Oval Office meeting, the New York Times reports on Friday citing an anonymous U.S. official who read from an internal document that purportedly summarized the exchange. Trump was meeting with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in the White House on May 10 when, according to the account reported by the Times, he made the derisive statements about Comey and also indicated possible motivations behind the director’s ouster. “I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Mr. Trump said, according to the readout of the document provided to the Times. “I faced great...

Donald Trump Has Destroyed the Credibility of the Presidency

by Peter Suderman – There is no longer any reason to trust anything the president or his surrogates say. Shortly after multiple outlets published reports last night that President Donald Trump had shared highly sensitive, classified information about an ISIS plot with Russian officials in an Oval Office meeting last week, White House officials stepped up to respond with denials. The denials were hard to believe because Trump has destroyed the credibility of his office. The most extensive denial came from national security advisor General H.R. McMaster. “The story that came out tonight, as reported, is false,” he said. “At no time were any intelligence sources or methods discussed and no military operations were disclosed that were not already known publicly.” One reason the denial is difficult to completely buy is because it is so precisely worded. McMcaster does not actually deny the core of the initial report in The Washington...

China’s rich become biggest foreign apartment buyers in Manhattan

For the first time, Chinese investors have become the biggest foreign buyers of apartments in Manhattan, real estate brokers in the city estimate. The move sees China’s super-rich increasingly take up the role previously held by their Russian counterparts, whose home-buying activity has reportedly dropped off amid fears that U.S. sanctions prompted by the Ukraine crisis could target wealthy oligachs from the country. The trend has seen Chinese individuals pouring money into property in New York and a few other major cities around the world, including London and Sydney, as they seek safe havens for their cash and to establish a base for their children to get an education in the West. Reuters asked five of the top real estate brokerages for their ranking of foreign buyers in New York City. The Chinese ranked first in both volume and value of sales in all their estimates. Opinions differed on just how the Russians,...
