Backlash To Oklahoma’s ‘Hoodie Bill’ Grows: Color Of Change Joins The Fight Against SB13

by T. STEELMAN – On Monday, Feb. 2, Oklahoma State Senator Don Barrington (R-Of Course) introduced SB13 (PDF file) in the state Senate. Known as the “Hoodie Bill,” it would make it illegal… A. To wear a mask, hood or covering, which conceals the identity of the wearer during the commission of a crime or for the purpose of coercion, intimidation or harassment; OR B. To intentionally conceal his or her identity in a public place by means of a robe, mask, or other disguise. Wearing a hoodie to such nefarious ends would be a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of $50 to $500 and/or one year in jail. The bill has a long list of exceptions including masquerade parties, religious coverings (wonder if that includes Pagans?), meetings of organizations in a place wholly under their control (so, the KKK is fine), minstrel troupes (what century do these people live in?!)...
