Why The Hell is Don Jr. Getting NSC Memos?

by durrati – Foreign Policy has a story up about the NSC Memo that got Flynn’s Alt-right associates on the NSC shit-canned by H.R. McMasters. This seven page piece of creative writing, titled “POTUS & Political Warfare.” is a conspiracy laden missive outlining that… “Trump is being attacked, the memo says, because he represents “an existential threat to cultural Marxist memes that dominate the prevailing cultural narrative.” Those threatened by Trump include “‘deep state’ actors, globalists, bankers, Islamists, and establishment Republicans.” The author of the memo, Rich Higgins, was fired by McMasters – who was accused of complicity in the feverishly imagined plot – after the memo was discovered on Higgins’ PC. Trump had a sad about the firing because he enjoyed Higgins’ fiction, in which he was the embattled Hero. Foreign Policy has the entire memo at the link. But the real news here is that Don Jr. was an addressee of the NSC memo,...

Attorney General Jeff Sessions Once Again Shows His Contempt for Transparency

by Christopher Anders, Deputy Director, ACLU Washington Legislative Office – Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the nation’s top law enforcement officer, is once again playing fast and loose with the law. In addition to investigating Sessions for allegedly perjuring himself during his Senate confirmation hearing and possibly having a role in obstructing justice in the firing of FBI Director James Comey, special counsel Robert Mueller will also have to investigate Sessions for any crimes in making a false statement in his security clearance application. On June 12, a judge ordered Sessions’s Justice Department to release a security clearance form that detailed his contacts with the Russian government within 30 days to a watchdog group, American Oversight. The group sued under the Freedom of Information Act in April for the information. The deadline for releasing the part of the form, known as an SF-86, was yesterday, July 12. Initially, NPR reported that the Justice Department...

Flynn Never Received Level of Security Clearance Required for National Security Adviser

by Mark Sumner – In today’s press conference, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer addressed the issue of President Obama providing a timely warning to Donald Trump against hiring Michael Flynn. Spicer denied knowing the details of the discussion, but repeatedly put it off as President Obama making it clear he “wasn’t exactly a fan of General Flynn.” Spicer defended Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, saying that President Obama’s reason for warning Trump against Flynn was because he was “outspoken about Obama’s lack of strategy” on ISIS. And Spicer retreated frequently to the standard position of the Trump regime over the last week: It’s Obama’s fault for giving Flynn a high level of security clearance, a level that Spicer insisted was equal to that Flynn would require as NSA, saying that the DNI and NSA had the same level of clearance. Except that’s not true. Peter Alexander ✔@PeterAlexander NEW: Flynn never received broader security...

Jared Kushner Neglects to List Meetings with Foreign Officials on Security Clearance Forms

by Chitown Kev – Filling out an array of forms comes with the territory of being an adult. Employment applications, various kinds of insurance forms, college applications, tax forms…anyone can increase the list. Near the end of these forms, there is usually a statement prior to affixing my signature. The statement says something like “Under the penalty of perjury, I attest that all of the information here is accurate and complete” or “failure to disclose could result in termination” or something of that nature. I read the fine print on all of the forms that I sign very very carefully. Now I might be getting a little up there in the age department, but if I had met with foreign officials and this information was requested on a security clearance form, I doubt that I would forget to include any meetings that I knew of…which is exactly what The Occupant’s son-in-law, the 36-year...
