Trump’s Awkward Meeting with Angela Merkel just got More Cringeworthy

by Laurel Raymond – Trump reportedly handed the Chancellor an invoice for what he thinks Germany “owes” NATO and the U.S. President Donald Trump’s meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel was always going to be awkward. Trump rode to office on a wave of nationalistic populism and has openly slammed NATO, one of the key alliances binding the U.S. and Germany, while Merkel has been a staunch defender of the global world order. During his campaign, Trump even levied Merkel’s name as an insult, sneering that his opponent Hillary Clinton wanted to be “America’s Angela Merkel.” Nonetheless, Trump took to Twitter the day after the chilly meeting to defend his “GREAT meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel” despite “FAKE NEWS” claiming otherwise, before reiterating his claim Germany owes NATO money for its defense — a claim that is profoundly ignorant of how NATO works. Now, the Times of London is reporting that Trump went a...

McMaster’s Challenge: His Boss Is Already Making America Less Safe

by Vikram Singh and Peter Juul – At a time when the Trump administration continues to spark an immediate and growing national security crises due to mismanagement and reckless policies, the national security community felt great relief at the president’s selection of Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster as the next national security advisor. McMaster will be tasked with resolving a number of serious foreign policy blunders already committed by the new administration. President Trump must ensure that McMaster has the authority and tools to deal with the following seven problems. Chaotic and dysfunctional management. Even before former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s forced resignation, President Trump’s National Security Council proved disturbingly dysfunctional. For example, U.S. military officials told Reuters that the president “approved his first covert counterterrorism operation without sufficient intelligence, ground support or adequate backup preparations.” The operation in Yemen was launched with no normal process and resulted in the...

Taxpayers To Get Huge Bill For Protecting Trump Because New York City Can’t Afford It

by Rika Christensen – Manhattan is seeing significant problems due to Trump’s insistence on staying in Trump Tower during his transition. He needs protection. His family needs protection. The tower needs protection. New York City is willing to give extensive help to the Secret Service to do it, but they can’t afford it. And Mayor Bill de Blasio is now asking the federal government for help. That help could be to the tune of $35 million, in addition to the ongoing costs of protecting Melania and Barron through the end of the school year, and the costs of Trump’s need to go back to his tacky gilded penthouse as many weekends as he can. Thus far, the costs of protecting him in that tower are around $1 million per day. Now, sure, President Obama, Michelle and their daughters needed protection when they were in Chicago, Hawaii, etc. However, they didn’t go...

NYPD Commissioner OBLITERATES Ted Cruz’s ‘Fictional’ Knowledge Of Counterterrorism

by Stephen D Foster Jr – In an op-ed that puts to rest any notion that Ted Cruz knows what he’s talking about when it comes to terrorism and national security, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton did not hold back. In the wake of the ISIS attack on Brussels, the Texas Senator went on camera to call for mass surveillance of Muslims in communities across the country as well as increased police patrols in those neighborhoods. Because spying on and treating Muslims like criminals is going to somehow prevent them from radicalizing. Not so, says Bratton, who wrote in his op-ed in New York Daily News that what Cruz believes about Muslims is “fiction” and that the outcome he seeks is a “fairy tale.” “Recently, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz called for police to “patrol and secure Muslim communities before they become radicalized.” We already patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods, the same...

Trump Explodes At Smiling Protester: ‘I’d Like To Punch Him In The Face’ (VIDEO)

by Shannon Argueta – A few weeks ago, Rachel Maddow did a comparison of Donald Trump and notorious racist George Wallace on her show. One of the points she made about the 2016 candidate and the 1968 candidate is how violent they both are. Like George Wallace, Trump is able to get his crowds riled up into such a frenzy that they start attacking protesters. At the beginning of his campaign, The Donald would do it by screeching “GET HIM OUTTA HERE,” but during a recent event, he actually said he’d like to punch a protester in the face. During a campaign event in Nevada on Monday night, Trump flipped out after he was interrupted by some hecklers and said: “You know what I hate? There’s a guy, totally disruptive, throwing punches — we’re not allowed to punch back anymore. In the old days, you know what they used to do...

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Says it Best: Donald Trump’s Campaign IS Terrorism

by JOE FLETCHER – In November, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar absolutely nailed it with his biting commentary on Republican presidential primary candidate Ben Carson. This month, the NBA champion sets his aim at Donald Trump, who has maintained a substantial lead above all other candidates in the GOP presidential primary field. Trump’s campaign has been a non-stop roller coaster of nearly blatant white supremacist rhetoric and fear mongering. That fear mongering provides the groundwork for Abdul-Jabbar’s suggestion that a terrorist campaign is growing in strength and power in the United States, and its leader sports a terrible comb over wig. Abdul-Jabbar writes: “The terrorist campaign against American ideals is winning. Fear is rampant. Gun sales are soaring. Hate crimes are increasing. Bearded hipsters are being mistaken for Muslims. And 83 percent of voters believe a large-scale terrorist attack is likely here in the near future. Some Americans are now so afraid that...

New Jerseyans Don’t Want To Pay For Gov. Christie’s Struggling Campaign

by KIRA LERNER – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s (R) campaign appears to be struggling. Two months after officially launching his campaign, the candidate is sagging in the polls and is failing to compete with his challengers who are dominating the media. And as of last week, he is facing a lawsuit from advocacy groups in his home state demanding he reimburse taxpayers for state funds he has used while campaigning across the country. New Jersey Working Families, two other groups and a number of New Jersey residents filed a lawsuit Friday asking the court to find that his campaign’s spending constitutes a “wrongful and unprivileged conversion of taxpayer funds.” The suit also asks the court to require Christie’s campaign to reimburse the state for the cost of his security detail’s accommodations he campaigns across the United States. “Our intent here is really simple,” Analilia Mejia, the executive director of NJ...
