“Stamp Out Illiteracy” CNCS CEO Wendy Spencer visited Houston to announce a campaign to increase the city’s literacy rates. As part of the effort, 15 AmeriCorps VISTAs with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation will mobilize community efforts to improve reading levels. Alongside Houston Mayor Annise Parker, Neil Bush, and community leaders, Wendy promised to “stamp out illiteracy put boots on the ground.” How Far We’ve Come Monday marked the fifth anniversary of Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, landmark legislation that has improved lives, strengthened communities, expanded economic opportunity, and helped engage millions of Americans in service.
