The 6 Worst Moments Of Trump’s Press Conference Defending His Campaign Manager Accused Of Battery
by KIRA LERNER –
Hours after Donald Trump’s campaign manager was charged with battering former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields, the Republican frontrunner held a press conference on his plane Tuesday to defend his top staffer.
Since the incident occurred, Corey Lewandowski has denied ever touching Fields and has called her “delusional.” Meanwhile, Trump has continued to defend Lewandowski, even after eyewitness reports corroborated Fields’ claims. On Tuesday, police in Jupiter, Florida also released a video that shows Lewandowski grabbing Fields’ arm.
But during Tuesday’s press conference, Trump turned the allegations on Fields, claiming that she assaulted him and that he cannot be sure that her bruises “weren’t there before.”
Here are the six worst moments from the event:
1. When he says that the tape doesn’t show anything:
“I looked at the tape — but the tapes were supplied by me. Those tapes, just so you understand. This is a very high-end club and we had tapes all over the place and we supplied those tapes. And those tapes to me are very conclusive. A lot of people are looking and saying, ‘how can anybody be charged?’”
2. When he claims that reporters shouldn’t be asking questions:
“It was finished,” Trump said about the March 8th press conference in which the battery allegedly occurred. “And she was running up and grabbing and asking questions. And she wasn’t supposed to be doing that.”
3. When he makes his Lewandowski (and his family) the victim:
“I think it’s a very, very sad thing, and I think it’s very unfair, to a good person. He’s got a family. He’s got four beautiful children. I think it’s very, very unfair to a man with a wonderful family, back in New Hampshire, who gets, what, a criminal situation, over that?”
4. When he accuses the victim of assault:
“She grabbed me before he even broke anything. And it almost looks like he’s just trying to create a little room. Because to be honest with you, the news conference had finished. It was over and I was leaving, rapidly leaving the premises.”
5. When he cites Piers Morgan’s tweet:
Television personality Piers Morgan tweeted on Tuesday that Fields should “toughen up.”
If a male reporter tried to claim this was ‘battery’, he’d be rightly mocked.
Toughen up, @MichelleFields.
Trump responded directly to that tweet during his press conference:
“Piers Morgan and many, many people, they saw that tape and they said, you’ve got to be kidding.”
6. When he suggests that Fields should have screamed if she were yanked:
“I don’t know what the police said. How do you know those bruises weren’t there before? I’m not lawyer. She said she had a bruise on her arm. If you’re going to get squeezed, wouldn’t you think she would have yelled out a scream or something if she has bruises on her arm?”
