On Monday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton appeared together at a campaign event for the first time. During a rally in Cincinnati, Warren reiterated strong criticisms of Donald Trump she’s been making during recent speeches, calling him “a small, insecure money grubber” and saying that “when Donald says he’ll make America great, he means greater for rich guys just like Donald Trump.”

A couple hours before Warren delivered those remarks, Trump took a shot at the senator he’s in the habit of calling “the Indian” and “Pocahontas”:

Crooked Hillary is wheeling out one of the least productive senators in the U.S. Senate, goofy Elizabeth Warren, who lied on heritage.

After the rally, Trump upped the ante, claiming that because Warren allegedly “lied on heritage” — she claims to be part Native American, though some are skeptical of that — she’s a racist.

From NBC senior news editor Bradd Jaffy:

Trump on Warren: “She made up her heritage, which I think is racist. I think she’s a racist, actually because what she did was very racist.”

The irony is that according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released yesterday, two-thirds of Americans actually think Trump is racist. Asked whether the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s “controversial comments” about women and minorities — including his recent racist attack on an American-born federal judge of Mexican lineage, an attack that even House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) described as “textbook racism” — indicate he’s prejudiced, 66 percent responded that they believe Trump is “unfairly biased.”

During his comments to NBC, Trump added that he doesn’t plan to tone down his rhetoric.

When questioned about how using “Pocahontas” is consistent w/ talk of a new ‘Trump 2.0,’ Trump told @HallieJackson, “I don’t care. I do me.”

Trump’s hit on Warren’s ethnicity was echoed by former Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA), the man Warren defeated to win her Senate seat in 2012 despite his attacks on her heritage.

Scott Brown, on RNC call, says Warren could get Harvard to release records or “take a DNA test” to prove she’s part Native American.

Scott Brown has many thoughts about Elizabeth Warren’s heritage, cont’d

In the New York Times obituary of Trump’s father Fred C. Trump, his nephew explained that Fred “had a lot of Jewish tenants [in New York City] and it wasn’t a good thing to be German in those days.”
