Watching Lindsey Graham Get Schooled On ‘Transgender Military Policy’ Is PRICELESS (VIDEO)

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) is now probably wishing he never went on Jorge Ramo’s talk show. The presidential hopeful just openly admitted to the world he had no idea what the military policy was regarding transgender soldiers, after being schooled on live television.

If Lindsey didn’t tout himself as such a “military hawk” and his “strong ties” to the men and women who serve, then he’d deserve a pass. The problem is, this just shows how out of touch he is in an area he’s supposed to be an expert.

“The ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy has been replaced. If I were president, I would keep the current system, and as far as I know, I don’t think there’s any bar against transgender service.”

The truth is, the military still actively enforces regulations that bar trans people from openly serving in the military even after the ban of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in 2011.

Jorge Ramos already knew this, though, and was quick to correct Sen. Graham. At this point in the interview, Graham was noticeably taken off guard and had to deflect further questions on the issue after hinting at first he’d be okay with transgenders serving.

“I’d have to speak to the military on this. I don’t know the answer to that. I’d like to hear their answer on why we do what we do.”

Graham, for the record, currently serves as Chairman of the Armed Forces Subcommittee on Personnel. This committee is specifically empowered with having oversight over all matters relating to active and reserve military personnel. Nobody should be more in touch on issues such as these than Graham. But, sadly, this is not the case.

Former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said in early 2014 that he was open to reviewing the policy that bars transgender soldiers, but no formal review has since taken place.
