When Asked About His Favorite Bible Verse, Donald Trump Did His Best Sarah Palin (VIDEO)
by WENDY GITTLESON –
In 2015, two things are required of Republican candidates: they need to be horrible people and they need to be horrible in the name of God.
When people think of Donald Trump, “religious” isn’t really the first thing to come to mind, but because he’s running for president as a Republican, he has found religion. Well, to be fair, he has claimed religion in the past, but it’s always seemed that that’s a secondary (at best) part of his life.
Even as recently as last month, Trump said about whether he’s asked God for forgiveness:
“I’m not sure I have,” Trump said. “I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so. I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.”
On Wednesday, he sounded a bit more committed, saying:
“I love the Bible. I’m a Protestant. I’m a Presbyterian. I went to Sunday school.”
However, when asked to name his favorite Bible verse, his answer brought back memories of when Katie Couric famously asked Sarah Palin what she read.
Here’s what she said:
Here’s Trump’s answer about the Bible in an interview with Bloomberg Managing Editor Mark Halperin:
“Well, I wouldn’t want to get into it,” Trump replied. “Because that’s very personal. You know, when I talk about the Bible it’s very personal. So I don’t want to get into it.”
Halperin pressed, again asking if he would name a favorite verse or two.
“No, I don’t want to do that,” Trump said.
Another reporter asked the billionaire if he is an “Old Testament guy or New Testament.”
“Probably equal. I think it’s just incredible, the whole Bible is incredible,” Trump said.
Here’s the video:
In other words, Trump either has no idea what’s in the Bible or he leads a life so contradictory to the Bible that to state a favorite verse would be to highlight the fact that he’s a greedy opportunist with only two goals in life, which are building his own net worth on taxpayer money and feeding his ego.
